Why a sports coach/trainer?

Sports coaches/trainers assist athletes in developing to their full potential. They are responsible for training athletes in a specific sport by analysing their performances, instructing in relevant skills and by providing encouragement. Also a coach takes responsiblity for the day to day guidance of the athlete in life and their chosen sport. The role of the coach is highly variable, from instructor, assessor, friend, mentor, facilitator, chauffeur, demonstrator, adviser, supporter, researcher, motivator, counselor, organiser, planner and at times expected to be the "Fountain of all Knowledge".

In relation to sports, the role of the coach is to create the right conditions for learning to happen and to find ways of motivating an athlete. Most athletes are highly motivated and therefore the task is to maintain that motivation and to generate excitement and enthusiasm.

The coach will need to be able to: assist athletes in the preparation of individualised training programs, communicate effectively with athletes, assist athletes to develop new skills, use evaluation tests and proven training protocols to monitor training progress and predict performance.

Therefore, the answer to the question would be, you need a coach if you cant do the above yourself and/or you just want to focus on the training and competing and hence the coach can do the rest!

Why do you need a program to work to?

We have all been there right? Endless training sessions, visits to the gym, great initial results but then it all stops and we plateau. The sessions become meaningless and we start to try all manner of fixes, we speak to numerous people and then get stuck following numerous training approaches "guaranteed to work" because they worked for that particular person. 6 months down the track you are still where you were. Training needs to be purposeful, consistent and follow known fitness principles.

Ultimately anyone can string a set of exercises together in an ad hoc manner without understanding what session will lead to what physiological adaptations but this approach will soon fail. If you are not sure what periodisation, adaptation/hypertrophy or polorisation are then it may be worth considering contacting us at Multisport Fitness and we can help you create a purposeful sports program for you to follow and be accountable to.

Programs start at $100 per month for a basic gym program to $200 per month for a data driven multisports program such as triathlon which includes gym work too.
